Ande and I went to see Forks Over Knives today at Park Terrace, which was about the correlation between eating meat and dairy with rates of cancer and heart disease and diabetes. The film was interesting and prompted some interesting discussion between my husband and I about trying our own experiment in better health. Not to lose weight, but to lower my cholesterol and improve Ande's overall health. I am not going to step on the scale during this change, because I don't want this to be another stressful attempt to look better; but one more step to improving my self esteem through feeling healthier.
Sooo we are planning to eliminate the majority of meat and dairy from our diet. It will be a once a week, if that, presence in our overall diet. I am expecting the dairy part to be a little harder for me, but we'll see.
Here's to more veggies!
You're a stronger woman than I!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Make sure you still get enough protein or you will still feel hungry. Fish is great and lean and packed with protein. If no fish, then try drinking a protein shake. If you like coffee, Click protein tastes just like a frappuchino without a lot of carbs and sugar. Or Syntha makes lean desert protein powder that are like a really yummy milkshake when mixed with skim milk and blended with ice. Anyways, good luck with this change and have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I'm curious to know how it went! I've been vegetarian for about 8 years now (whew!) but in the past few years have started eating fish (since my hubby still likes the steakhouses and I needed something to eat there!) -- it is always hard at first to cut out the meat, since it's everywhere. Keep it up, and keep up the writing! <3
