America the Beautiful Films.

This evening I was running through my Facebook newsfeed and was excited and surprised to see that "America the Beautiful 2: The Thin Commandments" was playing at UNCC tonight. I had been following the film's release and didn't expect it to be here so soon, I only had thirty minutes to get from downtown Matthews to UNCC in time for the film. I then threw on a pair of jeans instead of sweatpants, grabbed my husband, and rushed out the door.
I was very excited to see this film because I found the first in this series to be an interesting, and introspective look at how we as Americans form our opinions on beauty. This film is an organic branching out of that theme and tackles the diet industry's role in making us believe that "thin" is not only important for aesthetic reasons but for our very survival.
There are so many issues within the diet world the filmmaker Darryl Roberts could have examined in depth, that it was nice to see him look at the use of BMI (body mass index) to diagnose weight issues and how inaccurate this measurement really is. It isn't often I learn something new about the diet industry. I kind of consider myself an expert after all of the diet books, articles, diets I've tried; but I actually learned some new information tonight.
I highly recommend you look up these movies. The first film, "America The Beautiful" is available on DVD now, also I believe on Netflicks. The second is making it's rounds through campus theaters as well as in limited engagements in theaters. I've been told by Darryl Roberts that it should be out on DVD in March.
